3 things your makeup artist wish you knew

Hey! I’m Stefanie and I’m a freelance makeup artist specializing in soft romantic bridal looks. I’ve always been passionate about makeup but really got onto it 3 years ago when I decided to start my little business. My favorite way to start each day is to have a cup of coffee and watch makeup tutorials. Blood sweat and tears went into building my makeup kit and picking out all the perfect products. Now I get to share my knowledge and make brides feel their best self on their wedding day. It’s an amazing feeling to see my brides so happy on their wedding day and it shows in their beautiful pictures. I have the best job.

I wanted to share three things I wish my brides knew…

1. Take care of your skin.

Take care of your skin.Treat yourself to a facial as often as you can leading up to the big day. Cleanse, tone and moisturize your face every day. Good makeup starts with good skin. Keeping your face and lips moisturized will ensure a smooth and even application of makeup.

2. Bring realistic inspiration pictures.

Bring realistic inspiration pictures. Keep in mind makeup is suppose to enhance your looks, not change them. Try to stay away from any pictures that look like they’ve been overly photoshopped. Skin is suppose to have texture. It’s good to have a realistic outlook on what your makeup artist can actually achieve with makeup. Have an open conversation about what is possible and what is not. If you tell your artist you want your makeup really natural but then bring photos with heavy contouring, dramatic lashes and pore less  skin were going to have a hard time delivering what your wanting. Everyone has a different idea of what natural makeup looks like and think thats the hardest thing to figure out as a makeup artist.

3. Don’t be afraid to speak up.

Don’t be afraid to speak up. Tell me what you love but also  what you don’t love. Makeup artist have so much potential but only can do so much without having a little help from you. I always have my brides tell me few things they love/hate about makeup. Makes it so much easier for me to know what kind of makeup look to do for them.
